PUNTA CANA - DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
The DR has a population of about 10 million, with a warn to hot tropical climate. The official language is Spanish, English is generally spoken, the US $ accepted and the capital is Santo Domingo. Punta Cana, or "tips of white palms", lies on the eastern shore of the DR, between the Atlantic and the Caribbean Sea making for crystal clear blue and green water. As one of the highest rated vacation destination in the Caribbean, the DR boasts about 800 miles of pristine shoreline, white sand beaches, the highest peak in the Caribbean and an adventurous jungle-like interior. Many 5-star resorts along Punta Cana's miles of sandy beaches, offer all-inclusive luxury, accommodations and cuisine to suite almost every budget. Shallow waters make it a safe and delightful place to snorkel and scuba dive and surfing, windsurfing, kite boarding and parasailing are offered directly off the beach, in front of resorts. A varied choice of trips, excursions and tours are available both on the water and inland. As road conditions and signage are poor with dangerous driving by locals, it is suggested tourists not rent a car. Many Americans and Europeans choose Punta Cana to escape cold winters. It is a bit more difficult get to to Punta Cana from the US than some other Caribbean destinations, with longer flights and layovers.
