Jet lag affects one more traveling west to east. Here are a few suggestions to help cope with jet lag:
- Resetting your watch to destination time on take-off may help your body clock adjust to your new time zone.
- Flying eastbound, you loose sleep and the clock gains time - so go to bed earlier a few nights before departure.
- Flying westbound you gain time awake and loose clock time - so get up earlier a few days before flight.
- Avoid drinking alcohol and caffeine on long haul international flights.
- Pressurized cabin air causes your body to dehydrate faster and can make your jet lag symptoms worse.
- Drink water during the flight and keep hydrated.
- Very important - Walk up and down the aisle a few times every 1-2 hours. Do a few simple in-flight exercises in your seat to keep the blood circulating and avoid blood clots.
- At your destination don't sleep during daylight hours.
- Take a shower, go outdoors, exercise or go for a walk and you will adjust faster to your new time zone.
