THE DEVASTATING NOTRE-DAM FIRE IN PARIS - OUR PICTORIAL TRIBUTE
On 15 April 2019, Notre-Dame Cathedral, probably the one of the most important visitor attractions in Paris, was partially destroyed by fire. After burning for about fifteen hours, the spire and roof had collapsed and the structure, interior and windows were severely damaged. Firefighters prevented even more extensive damage to the interior and many works of art and other treasures were evacuated and saved early. Many others were sadly damaged or destroyed. The cathedral's two pipe organs, and its three 13th-century rose windows, suffered little damage. President Macron vowed the country would come together as one and restore the cathedral within five years and launched a fundraising campaign which brought in pledges of over a $1 Billion worldwide within days.
